Private Security and Property Owner Registration

Security Registration and Key Requests

Security registration may be required when a restricted key control system is needed for a Knox product or organization. This process helps establish authorized contacts, signature controls, and key request permissions for sensitive Knox products.

Security registration is typically required when a fire department requires a building owner or property representative to have access to a dual Knox Product, depending on the jurisdiction requirements. It may also apply when a private company or organization is interested in establishing its own Knox system.

What security registration does

Security registration establishes a restricted key control system for an organization. This system is used to identify who is authorized to request Knox products, additional keys, units, or locks with assigned codes.

The registration process also identifies the organization’s primary contact, who acts as the coordinator for the rapid access system and receives related materials and correspondence.

When security registration may be needed

Security registration may be required in situations such as:

  • A fire department requires the building owner or property representative to have access to a dual Knox product.
  • A jurisdiction requires controlled access for a building owner, property representative, or other approved party.
  • A private company wants to establish its own Knox system for organizational use.

Requirements may vary based on the jurisdiction, product configuration, and access needs.

Authorized signatures and restricted access

Security registration helps Knox verify who is authorized to make requests involving sensitive products. Authorized individuals may be permitted to order Knox Rapid Access System products, request additional master keys, add or remove authorized signatures, and agree to the applicable terms and conditions of use.

Changes to authorized signatures must be submitted using the required authorization process. This helps maintain the integrity of the restricted key control system and ensures that access-related changes are requested by approved individuals.

Security key requests

Once a restricted key control system has been established, new or replacement security keys may require a separate key request process.

For security purposes, requests for new or replacement keys must be signed, dated, and submitted with an authorized signature. Security keys require a physical delivery address where an authorized signer is available to receive the shipment, and keys cannot be shipped to P.O. boxes.
